Reg + Consumer Packaged Goods Counsel

Lorrie serves RWR Legal as Reg + Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Counsel, where she consults directly with both entrepreneurs and corporate clients on the regulation of food and beverage products, dietary supplements, and homeopathic drugs, as well as strategic business and operations planning. Lorrie routinely advises on current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), product distribution, marketing and sales activities, packaging and labeling, and health, nutrient, and structure/function claims. Lorrie’s practice also focuses on regulatory issues related to the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and combination medical products. As a certified master trainer in quality systems, Lorrie is available to advise on the development and implementation of compliance programs.

Before she joined RWR Legal, Lorrie founded Orton Heath Law (OHL), PLLC, a boutique firm providing business and legal strategy services and representation to individual and corporate clients, with a focus on medical devices, pharma, and life sciences. At OHL, Lorrie routinely engaged and collaborated with corporate boards, C-suite executives, physicians, engineers, scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs; she advised on a wide range of important business concerns, including business strategy and planning, product development and regulation, commercial negotiations, legal agreements, and prevention and risk management. She also represented individuals seeking assistance with specific legal matters, including real estate property management and consumer protection.

Prior to becoming a licensed attorney, Lorrie garnered significant corporate management experience within highly-regulated industry settings, including medical devices and equipment, information technology systems, and consumer packaged goods (CPG). She has been a manager, executive, and officer at start-up and mid-size companies, as well as various Fortune 500s and private companies, including corporate powerhouses GE, Boston Scientific, St Jude Medical (Abbott), and Nestle Foods.  Lorrie has actively participated in the global regulatory approvals of over 20 Class III medical devices, developed and commercially launched hundreds of Class I-III medical devices, and successfully negotiated multimillion-dollar medical equipment contracts and complex medical device acquisitions at healthcare systems around the globe. At Nestle Foods, Lorrie managed an award-winning regional business unit of 20+ sales representatives, and directed all headquarter activities at mega-retailers HEB, Randalls, Albertsons, Winn Dixie, and Kroger, including distribution, launch, and marketing across 15 different product categories.

In 2012, Lorrie earned her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law, St Paul, Minnesota, alma mater to many distinguished attorneys, civic leaders, and judges, including fifteenth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Warren Burger. At William Mitchell, Lorrie was recognized for her public service to the Law & Business Clinic and the Minnesota Justice Foundation. She was also the recipient of the CALI Award for Excellence in Client Counseling. Lorrie was granted certification by the Supreme Court of Minnesota and subsequently served as extern and law clerk to attorneys Teresa F. McClain and Mark Hallberg, partner attorneys at Hallberg & McClain, P.A., a leading plaintiffs firm specializing in medical malpractice litigation. At Hallberg & McClain, Lorrie researched complex medical conditions and drafted dozens of documents, including pleadings, motions, memoranda, and bench briefs.  Lorrie was also privileged to have served as extern to the Honorable Lezlie Ott Marek, District Court Judge, Ramsey County, where she researched both state and federal matters and drafted various court documents, including court orders. Lorrie earned her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.

In her spare time, Lorrie serves the greater Austin community by assisting low-income individuals and veterans through Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas and other non-profit organizations. In 2015, Lorrie was invited to join the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, which “recognizes attorneys who have far exceeded the State Bar’s aspirational pro bono goal in their efforts to address the vast unmet legal needs of the poor.” In both 2016 and 2017, Lorrie was honored with the Judge Suzanne Covington Award for providing exemplary pro bono service through Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas.
